If you’ve given up on this zombie apocalypse survival series after a couple of seasons, you should consider picking up The Walking Dead Season 5 again. It will come as a gripping, suspenseful and refreshingly emotional season. You’ll feel how brilliant Season 5 is, particularly after the slow-moving and often-boring season 4. Here’s why you should watch season 5 (and then catch up to the current season 7).

Why watch The Walking Dead Season 5

It’s bloody: If you’ve been watching the series for the gore, you definitely won’t be disappointed with this season. It is filled with bloody action, that is not, thankfully, only gratuitous. There is lots of righteous violence, so you’ll feel vindicated with every bloody moment. The unbearably long and meandering road to Terminus is over in this season.

There is emotion: The plotlines in this season are more engaging and you’re likely to feel lots of adrenaline rush as the opening episodes bring new characters but also keep exploring history in ways that are haunting.

There are character moments: There are plenty of new characters in season 5. Of course, if you’ve watched anything of the series you’ll know that the writers have no qualms about killing off characters. But the new characters don’t leave you feeling disconnected from the story. There are lots of character moments to look for in this season.

Season 5 is Award-winning

Then there’s the fact that Season 5 has won plenty of awards and critics have had to say some fantastic things about it. It’s won a Screen Guilders Award nomination for the best stunt team. It’s also won as many as three Saturn Awards, for Best Syndicated/ Cable TV Series, and for the lead and supporting roles played respectively by Andrew Lincoln and Melissa McBride. At the same awards, the show won seven other nominations, mostly for the performances.

Overall, many critics have called season 5 one of the best seasons of the series. Of course, you don’t have to take their word for it. Check out the season yourself and see if it’s worth all the hype. The first episode has wowed many viewers, especially long-time viewers of the series, who had got bored with the previous season.

Here’s a refresher of what to expect in this season. When we left off in season 4, Rick and his crew were trapped in a train, outnumbered and outgunned by zombies. In season 5, the group continues its search for sanctuary, while part of it travels to Washington D.C. in the hope of finding a cure to the walking virus. Most of the material for this season comes from the comic book episodes 62 to 77.
